Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer designs and implements the manufacturing processes that deliver the plant's production goals for safety-critical powertrain components in a high-volume automotive environment. The role works with Production, Quality, Maintenance and Program Management to raise productivity, quality and efficiency, and supports new equipment and new product launches from process design through stable production.

Process Design and Implementation
Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager / Supervisor, the Manufacturing Engineer works independently and confers regularly with division and corporate employees, contractors, customers and suppliers. Travel and overtime may be required to meet customer expectations. A valid driver's license and passport are required for travel. The role works in a manufacturing plant environment and will be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise.

The role works with Production, Quality, Maintenance and Program Management to raise productivity, quality and efficiency, and supports new equipment and new product launches from process design through stable production.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Design and Implementation
- Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, drawing on product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and equipment capability, assembly methods and quality standards.
- Work with product development engineers to bring new products into the manufacturing process.
- Design, build and implement automation that improves production efficiency and quality.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities, then plan and implement them to improve operational efficiency.
- Work closely with Quality so manufacturing processes meet IATF 16949 requirements, industry standards and customer specifications.
- Make the technical decisions on new manufacturing equipment purchases.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment to keep downtime low.
- Apply lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste, improve processes and reduce variability in production.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including process flow charts, work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Comply with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, WSIB and environmental requirements, including ISO 14001.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff.
- Ownership mentality: takes full responsibility for process performance and results.
- Collaborative team player: works openly with cross-functional teams, builds trust and resolves challenges together.
- Participates in the Open-Door Resolution Process and models PES's operational procedures and policies.
- Ensures suppliers work safely in operations work areas and zones when applicable.
- Conducts themselves professionally and maintains peer relationships.
- Other duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of proven shop floor manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment and technology.
- Experience with CAD software and proficiency in designing manufacturing layouts.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and able to work in a team environment.
- Willing to travel as needed to support operations at other sites or to evaluate new technologies and equipment.
- Available outside regular hours when needed to resolve urgent production issues or meet project deadlines.
- Scrap rate: reduction in defects and waste.
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): uptime and productivity of the equipment supported.
- Cycle time: throughput and efficiency improvement.
- Improvement projects: number of projects initiated and completed.
- Cost savings: annual cost savings achieved.
